While driving through the foothills of Hwy 178, a woman named Kristen came across 2 stray dogs in the middle of nowhere, 8 miles away from the nearest town. She tried her best to rescue the 2 dogs but had to call Kern County Animal Services for guidance. Our Animal Control Officer Brooks showed up to help. Although the dogs were friendly, they wouldn't let anyone get close enough to catch them. Eventually ACO Brooks, Kristen, and the 2 dogs were miles away from the highway. A decision had to be made. 1 safe dog is better than no safe dog, so ACO Brooks opted to dart (tranquilize) the Dobie Mix. But then came the task of getting the Dobie back to the truck! Brooks and Kristen took turns carrying the 70-80 pound dog, but together they got the job done. The Dobie is now at our Lake Isabella shelter. The Lab ran off and is still out there, but our ACOs will be patrolling the area in the hopes of finding the dog and getting it safe. The nearest towns (8-10 miles away) are Inyokern and Ridgecrest. If anyone from those towns know who these dogs belong to, please let us know!  In the meantime, tap an emoji to thank Kristen and ACO Brooks for their hard work and big hearts!
